Olena Protsenko is a human rights lawyer working for the Armed Conflict Unit at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). Born and raised in the east of Ukraine, Olena has been specializing in the rights of war victims in Ukraine since 2015. As a strategic litigator at the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union, Olena shaped the legal landscape in Ukraine by winning over twenty cases at the ECtHR. She also advocated for the rights of persons with mental disabilities, consulted WHO Ukraine and has written for The Lancet Psychiatry. With the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, Olena co-taught international human rights law clinics at the University of Virginia and Loyola Marymount University, aiming to hold Russia accountable at the international level.
