Janet Gunn is an independent analyst of post-Soviet and Central European politics and international relations and former expert on those regions in the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (1970-2006). She served in the British Embassies in Bucharest (1975-6), Moscow (1984-5), Sofia (1974 and 1994-7), Dushanbe (2002) and Kyiv (2005-6).

She is a trustee of a small British charity, The BEARR Trust, which supports health and social welfare NGOs in Eastern Europe and Central Asia and has been providing funds for humanitarian relief in Ukraine since February 2022.

From 2014-2016 she worked in OSCE and EU projects in Ukraine and Moldova, including the OSCE’s National Dialogue Project in Ukraine in 2014. From 2007-2010 she worked in EU post-conflict stabilisation missions in Ukraine and Moldova (EUBAM) and in Kosovo (EULEX).

She has participated in twelve OSCE/ODIHR election observation missions, most recently in the Ukrainian presidential election in 2019 (in Mykolaiv and Mariupol).
