Dr. Arunas Bubnys, born on November 7, 1961, in Ignalina, Lithuania, is the Director General of the Genocide and Resistance Research Centre of Lithuania (LGGRTC), a position he has held since April 2021. He holds a PhD in Humanities from Vilnius University, where he specialized in Lithuanian anti-Nazi resistance during World War II. Dr. Bubnys has extensive academic and professional experience, having worked as a senior researcher at the Lithuanian Institute of History and later serving as the director of the Lithuanian Special Archives. He has also completed a research internship at the University of Bremen’s East European Institute. Over his career, Dr. Bubnys has published numerous monographs and articles on topics such as the Holocaust in Lithuania, Jewish ghettos, Lithuanian and Polish underground movements, and the June Uprising. His research, focused on events between 1939 and 1944, has been published in several languages, including Lithuanian, Polish, and German. In addition to his academic work, Dr. Bubnys is fluent in German, Polish, Russian, and English.
